What’s the difference between a symphony and a concerto?

When do I clap?

Why is everything in Italian?

Hey, even Yo-Yo Ma asked those questions once upon a time. The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra is pleased to offer Symphony 101. It’s designed for those who wish to enhance their symphony-going experience, just by understanding what it’s all about.

Hosted by ESO Music Resource D.T. Baker, Symphony 101 goes back to the basics. In a lively and fun session, get some background as to what all that information on a symphony program actually means. Bach was Baroque, and Berlioz a Romantic – so what? This is your chance to find out.

With musical excerpts from the ESO’s 2011/12 season, Symphony 101 will be interactive as well as informative. Feel free to ask the questions you might have been too shy to ask before.

The program is offered to ESO patrons at no cost, but you need to register online at EdmontonSymphony.com.
